Price freeze

Posted - 25 January 2012

You'll no doubt be pleased to hear that our prices this year are the same as in 2011.
And if you live within 50 miles of Cardiff travel is included.

We film weddings and Marryokes all over the UK, but only add the actual costs and don't charge for time spent travelling.

Last year although most of our weddings were in south and west Wales we also filmed in Bolton (Bolton school), Cambridgeshire (South Farm) and Wiltshire (Guyers House) with bookings this year for Hampshire, Bristol, Dumfriesshire, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire.

Best Wedding Videographer in Wales

Posted - 21 November 2011

Yes, that's us ! We're delighted to have won the award of Best Wedding Videographer in Wales at the inaugural Welsh National Wedding Awards.
The award was presented to us last night at a glittering Black Tie dinner at the Parc y Strade stadium in Llanelli, along with a Best in our Region award.
It's fantastic that not only our clients recognise our unique style of wedding video but also the judges. We'd like to thank everyone who voted for us, and we've been very touched by the lovely comments especially those from couples whose weddings we filmed.

Marryoke in the Park

Posted - 29 October 2011

In the end Sian-Eleri didn't need trainers for the Marryoke (but was wearing Converse for the choreographed first dance later !).
It was a beautiful sunny autumn day so all the guests made their way from the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff to Bute Park - a perfect backdrop for Sian Eleri and Darren's Marryoke.
While the couple were having their photos taken by the talented Chris Barroccu (www.chrisbarroccu.co.uk) their guests rocked out to Crazy Crazy Nights by Kiss, providing impromptu entertainment for several members of the public !

Bride in trainers ?

Posted - 28 October 2011

Well, we're not sure what today's Marryoke will bring but it's sure to involve an element of the great outdoors.
Sian-Eleri and Darren both train in all weathers at Outdoor Fitness - in fact he proposed during an early morning training session.
And we've just heard that Sian was in the park this morning at 6.15 am ahead of their wedding at 2pm.
We've had several brides in wellies over the years - will Sian be the first in trainers ?

Movie Trailer

Posted - 23 October 2011

Pippa and Mike's wedding video (see below) is nearly finished but in the mean time here's a link to their Movie Trailer http://vimeo.com/30497191.

Also nearly ready is Lea and Mark's Marryoke which we filmed at the lovely Oxwich Bay Hotel on Gower last month.

We try and deliver DVDs and Marryokes within a month of the wedding, although it's a bit longer than that at busy times of year.

Sporting wedding

Posted - 10 October 2011

Saturday's wedding began early as we both got up for 6am to watch Wales beat Ireland in the Rugby World Cup - like many of the guests at Mike and Pippa's wedding in his home town of Crickhowell.

The result got the day off to a great start, as Mike is a professional cricketer with Glamorgan and there were quite a few famous faces from the worlds of cricket and rugby.

After emerging from a ceremony in the parish church through a guard of honour formed with cricket bats, Mike and Pippa walked with their 200 guests up the road to Porthmawr Country House to a marquee reception.

Pippa looked stunning in a stunning ballerina style dress and sparkly Jimmy Choos. And after a week of stormy weather, the rain held off all day.

Busy summer

Posted - 03 October 2011

Well, it's been a few months now but we hope you've been able to keep up with us via Twitter @orchidfilms and @orchidbrides and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/orchidfilms.

We've filmed at eight weddings, including two where the couple had already got married abroad then come home to Wales for a ceremony here.

The cinematic Movie Trailers, Highlights and Marryokes can all be seen on our Video Gallery page.

Lost in translation

Posted - 06 July 2011

Sally filmed Amy and David's wedding at Miskin Manor on Saturday with Steve and the weather was definitely on their side.
Amy looked stunning and, unusually for a bride, also made a speech in which she revealed David's pet name for her was mochyn. As an English rose, she had no idea for years of its real meaning (it's the Welsh for pig btw).

Rob and Amy-Lou (see blog below) are now back from their honeymoon so we had this Movie Trailer waiting for them:

Celtic wedding in England

Posted - 26 June 2011

A Welsh bride and Scottish groom married in a traditional English village church with a reception in a glorious Georgian country house - Amy Lou and Rob's wedding yesterday had it all.

They were one of the happiest couples whose wedding we've had the pleasure of filming. They married in their local parish church, Broad Hinton in Wiltshire, where Rob's colleagues from RAF Lyneham provided a guard of honour.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches at the beautiful Guyers House near Corsham, the couple and all their guests took part very enthusiastically in a Marryoke, singing along to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.

Guards of honour

Posted - 01 June 2011

Hopefully the poor weather didn't spoil your Bank Holiday. It certainly didn't dampen spirits at the two weddings we filmed.
Liz looked stunning in a lacy Audrey Hepburn style dress when she married Chris at Christ Church, Radyr with a reception afterwards at the New House Country Hotel in Thornhill, Cardiff.
Friends from Outdoor Fitness where Liz trains did exercises in the rain as Liz walked in to church - a novel take on the traditional guard of honour.

We'd had the real version the week before at a wedding in St David's Cathedral, where the bride and groom emerged through a tunnel of drawn swords and Number 1 uniforms.

And we were also in Crickhowell over the weekend, filming Marc and Kath's Marryoke at the Old Rectory Country Hotel in Llangattock. The rain cleared so we were able to use the lovely grounds to film "Rockstar". It's an ambitious song for a Marryoke but we got there in the end and the end result will be fab - as ever !

You can see Liz and Chris's Movie Trailer here:

and this is the link for Holly and Nick's Marryoke filmed at South Farm (see blog below)

Easter weddings

Posted - 24 April 2011

What glorious sunshine for the two weddings we've filmed over Easter. Victoria looked stunning as she married Antony at Miskin Manor near Cardiff, and the guests enjoyed drinks on the terrace overlooking the extensive gardens of the country manor house.

It produced some stunning footage, much of it filmed by Steven Davies, who we're very pleased to have working with us.

You can see Victoria and Antony's Movie Trailer at
http://www.vimeo.com/22781468.

The next day we were off to a new venue, South Farm in Cambridgeshire, to film a Marryoke for Nick and Holly. What a wonderful place for a wedding, and perfect for a Marryoke with its hidden gardens, gypsy caravans and fairy lights down the drive.

Testimonial

Posted - 19 April 2011

We love receiving unsolicited testimonials and today were delighted to get a really lovely card from Gareth and Jane in the post. Among the appreciative comments, they say "We absolutely love our DVD and will cherish it always". And we were very pleased that they said "We also appreciated how discreet you were on the day. You just seemed to blend in with our guests".
When we're at a wedding we try and be as invisible as possible without directing anything, just filming what actually happens.

Our charity film on the BBC

Posted - 17 March 2011

What a whirlwind day! A call late lunchtime from the BBC in London, asking for a copy of the fabulous 'Marryoke' we filmed last week for Comic Relief, had us rushing back to the office to get it uploaded in time to make it on tonights programme.
The 'Furry Happy Monsters' (aka pupils) at St Stephen's Primary School in Bradford had their five minutes of fame when the music video was featured on primetime programme The One Show.
We can't think of anything more fun than filming a Marryoke, so the fact it was for charity was a very big bonus.
It brought smiles to all in the studio tonight and lets hope it brings a lot more smiles with the money it raises for Red Nose Day.

Orchid goes international

Posted - 16 March 2011

We're expanding our horizons this week in more ways than one.
A bride's booked us from America for a wedding in Wales, and a German TV company wants to feature our Marryokes !
Closer to home, a new Channel 4 show hosted by Fern Britton has asked us to send them some of our Marryokes.

Away from our wedding work, two films we made for a stalking charity have received national media attention today with the launch of a new campaign called Trust Your Instinct by the Network for Surviving Stalking.

Red Nose Day

Posted - 11 March 2011

Well we did it - survived a day long shoot with 300 Furry Happy Monsters at St Stephen's Primary School in Bradford.
All the staff joined in as well, including the dinner ladies.
Now the school is selling its very own Marryoke style music video to raise money for Comic Relief.
You can view it at www.vimeo.com/orchidfilms/monsterschool.

Channel 4

Posted - 06 March 2011

We're very excited about a call we've had from Channel 4 who're interested in featuring us producing a Marryoke for a new show hosted by Fern Britton.
If you're getting married soon and would like a Marryoke - and to go on TV to talk about why you'd like one - we'd love to hear from you !

Comic Relief

Posted - 01 March 2011

Just had a call about the special Marryoke style music video we're filming as our contribution to Red Nose Day. We've got 300 Monster children at a school in Bradford along with dinner ladies, lollipop men and teachers, all dressing up as Furry Happy Monsters from Sesame Street. Can't wait !

Brilliant Marryoke Song

Posted - 27 February 2011

Saturday night saw our first Marryoke of 2011 - and what a great song the couple chose. It Must Be Love by Madness has to be one of the best tracks for a Marryoke as everyone knows the words, it's got a good beat and is fun to sing. Katie and Iain were married at Cwrt Bleddyn near Usk which provided a wonderful backdrop too. Look out for the suit of armour !

Web Promo videos

Posted - 21 February 2011

As there are fewer weddings at this time of year, we've started taking on commissions for short Promo Videos for company websites. We're already working on two - one for a security company and another for a national charity campaign. Today we've just heard we've been successful in winning a tender from a National Park. For more information on our corporate films, please visit www.orchid-films.co.uk.

Red Nose Day

Posted - 16 February 2011

We like to hear from our couples after their wedding - as well as before - and were delighted to get a call this week from Sian whose Marryoke we filmed in 2009. Sian loved her Marryoke so much she's asked us to film a music video for Red Nose Day at the school were she works. So as our contribution to Red Nose Day we'll be off to Bradford next month. Really looking forward to it !

Buckland Hall

Posted - 23 January 2011

We've just been to a wedding fayre at a new venue for us, Buckland Hall near Brecon www.bucklandhall.co.uk.
What an amazing place it is, a lovely old mansion with beautiful large rooms, massive fire places and fantastic views.
It even has a billiards room with a full sized table, and would be brilliant for a Marryoke.
We met lots of really lovely brides (and grooms) with their families and friends, and with a lot of interest in our films and Marryokes we hope to be seeing some of them again !

Bookings

Posted - 19 January 2011

We're delighted to have heard from five couples in the last week who wanted to book us to film their Wedding or Marryoke. Luckily we were free on four of the days - but one was already taken. So if your wedding is this summer and you're thinking of getting in touch, we look forward to hearing from you soon as the diary is filling up fast !
One of the venues is new to us but looks amazing - Guyers House Hotel in Wiltshire.

Here's Looking at You

Posted - 30 December 2010

Guests who joined in with Adrian and Adele's Marryoke last night at the lovely Park House Club in Cardiff were treated to our new piece of kit - the iPrompter.
It's like an Autocue, so as the music plays and you look at the camera to do your bit in the Marryoke, the words scroll up on a screen in the lens.
It was a huge help and people who aren't quite sure of the words now have no excuse !

Snow challenge

Posted - 29 December 2010

Last week we filmed two weddings in the snow which produced some wonderful footage. At first the weather seemed a hindrance but once we got to the venues, the snow really added to the atmosphere and magical Christmassy feel.
Hannah and Gavin's wedding at her parish church, St Stephen's in Ystrad, Rhondda also had the unusual feature of having two clergy and three rings ! The extra vicar was Hannah's godfather, a retired Bishop, and the third ring was her late grandmother's engagement ring.
Hannah and Gavin's reception was held at Miskin Manor near Cardiff, where the extensive grounds were a real winter wonderland.
A couple of days later we were at Peterstone Court, near Brecon for Gareth and Jane's marriage. We were delighted to be working once again alongside photographer Sacha Miller.
Gareth and Jane had written their own very personal, emotional vows which you can see for yourself as their Highlights are on our Video Gallery page.
Peterstone Court's Christmas decorations were wonderful, created by their talented in-house florist Mairwen Mackintosh.
Both Hannah and Jane were game enough to swap their designer shoes for wellies for the photoshoot, which is really worth the effort if you have a snowy wedding as the footage is stunning.

Winter weddings

Posted - 13 December 2010

It seems more and more people are choosing Christmas time to walk down the aisle. According to the wedding gift department of Debenhams winter weddings are up 28 per cent on previous years.
We've certainly found that Christmas - and Easter time - are as popular now as the summer months.
Over the next few weeks we're filming some lovely couples at wonderful venues. We'll be posting clips of them on our Video Gallery page so why not check it out for some ideas ?

Vegetarian weddings

Posted - 06 December 2010

If you're after a vegetarian meal for your wedding, why not take a look at Buckland Hall near Brecon ? It's an amazing venue in a stunning location which you have all to yourselves for the day.
They've invited us to exhibit at their wedding fayre on January 23rd so hopefully we'll see you there ! www.bucklandhall.co.uk

Marryoke record

Posted - 21 October 2010

Wedding guests in south Wales will be rocking this weekend as we are filming three Marryokes in two days.
The couples have chosen different tracks and they will all be Marryoke firsts for us - Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer, Andy Williams Can't Take My Eyes Off you and the Grease Mega Mix.

Swanky new kit

Posted - 14 October 2010

We have some great news for you if you're thinking of booking a Marryoke - we now have an autocue so even those who say they don't know the words have no excuse for not joining in !
It was just one of a number of new pieces of kit that we bought at an industry trade fair.
We are continuously upgrading our equipment to make sure we produce the best possible videos using the latest kit and techniques.

World Wide Web

Posted - 05 October 2010

We have seen first hand the power of the internet this week when a Wedding Blog in the States picked up on one of our Marryokes (James and Kirsty's I'm a Believer). In the last three days more than ten thousand people have seen it, in 100 different countries !

Don't Stop Me Now

Posted - 11 September 2010

You can now see our latest Marryoke to be released at http://www.vimeo.com/14667305.
Jonathan and Rachel's Don't Stop Me Now was filmed at Blanco's at Port Talbot and they're delighted with it. "We absolutely love this - it made our day extra special"

New Marryokes

Posted - 23 August 2010

Our ever expanding portfolio of Marryoke songs now includes the Glee version of Don't Stop Believin which Sheralyn and Steve chose for their Marryoke over the weekend. It worked really well, with all the guests joining in including a certain former Wales rugby captain !
We've also had some great feedback over the last few days from the Marryokes filmed last month "We have laughed and cried over how amazing it has turned out" (Start It Up) and "the Marryoke's brilliant" (I Gotta Feeling). They can be seen on our Vimeo page at http://www.vimeo.com/14293509 and http://www.vimeo.com/14279685

Posted - 15 August 2010

What a great weekend ! As we were preparing for Rachel and Jonathan's Marryoke in Port Talbot, the postman arrived with a wonderful Thank You card from James and Kirsty, whose wedding we filmed at Portmeirion in May. It's great to know they are so pleased with their video "you captured our Special Day perfectly and have provided us with the ultimate reminder of a truly magical day, one which we are honoured that you were a part of. The Marryoke was a complete success and the video is a massive hit with all involved."
We filmed Rachel and Jonathan's Marryoke to Queen's Don't Stop Me Now at Blanco's in Port Talbot, a great success with guests queuing up to take part.
Finally you can now see Bob and Sally's Movie Trailer at http://www.vimeo.com/13887905 which was filmed in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. The church where they were married has strong family connections for one of us so it was very special to be there.

Congratulations

Posted - 13 August 2010

We're very excited about the news of an Orchid Films baby ! Huge congratulations to Carwyn and Emma Williams on the birth of their son Tomos. Carwyn and Emma were married in Cardiff City Hall last December with a reception - and a Marryoke - at the Vale Hotel. Llongyfarchiadau i chi gyd :)

Weekend Wedathon

Posted - 04 August 2010

Our busiest weekend yet saw us at four fantastic weddings in two days. On Friday Charlotte and Tommy were married in the historic priory in Usk with a reception afterwards at The Lodge at Celtic Manor, Newport. The same day we filmed a Marryoke at Canada Lodge near Cardiff for Hannah and Dafydd, whose guests really got into the idea with the Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling.

Saturday found one of us in Cumbria's beautiful Eden Valley at Bob and Sally's wedding in Armathwaite village church with a reception at Roundthorn Country House with its panoramic views towards the Lake District. It's good to see local traditions being upheld, with the church gates being tied until the couple had thrown coins over them for the children of the village to collect.

Back home in Cardiff, we filmed Charlene and Robert's wedding at the Village Hotel, Coryton where the guests included Welsh rugby international Tom James, the groom's brother.

We were also pleased to welcome cameraman Mike Palfreman on to the team and hope he will film more weddings for us in the future.

Jersey's First Marryoke

Posted - 22 July 2010

This weekend we are filming what we believe is the first Marryoke to be filmed in Jersey ! Steve and Natasha have chosen the Stones' Start Me Up for their very own music video, which we will be filming at a wonderful location called The Beach House.
Editing of our first Jersey wedding, at Mont Orgueil Castle a few weeks ago, is just about finished and it's looking fantastic.

We're pleased to report we've had two bookings this week for later on in the year and several inquiries for weddings in 2011 so if you have been thinking of booking us please do not delay or your date may have gone !

Zank You

Posted - 08 July 2010

We are delighted to have been recommended by Zankyou.com, a free online multi-lingual wedding gift list service which is particularly useful for couples from different countries or those with guests coming from abroad.
Included in the service is a free wedding webpage which keeps your guests in touch with developments.
And after the wedding you can post links to your Orchid Films Movie Trailer or Marryoke !
There is also an online wedding information service, Zk Magazine.

Stunning brides and fabulous weather

Posted - 04 July 2010

We filmed at two weddings this week, both in beautiful sunshine with stunning brides - and as both were recommendations from previous couples we knew quite a few of the guests. It was like meeting old friends !
Adam and Amy were married on Thursday at the amazing Mount Orgueil Castle in Jersey, which has breathtaking sea views all round. Amy wore a Jenny Packham gown with Jimmy Choos and was a really beautiful bride.
So too was Holly, who married Simon at a church near York. They held their reception at York Maze, where we filmed what must be the wackiest Marryoke so far. It will be online soon for you to see :)

Jersey bound

Posted - 28 June 2010

We are off to Jersey tomorrow for the first of three weddings there this summer. It's a completely new destination for us so we're looking forward to exploring the island as well as meeting the other two couples, and filming Adam and Amy's wedding at the amazing Mount Orgeuil Castle on Thursday.

Catching Up

Posted - 21 June 2010

It's been a busy few weeks for us recently moving premises -- and it's taken a while to be re-connected to the Internet after the move. But we're back now !
In the meantime we've been on Wedding TV's Real Weddings programme twice. We have also had to turn down two bookings because we were already booked :( so do get in touch with us in good time as the popular dates get booked up very quickly.

Sunshine wedding

Posted - 23 May 2010

What brilliant weather for James and Kirsten's wedding at Portmeirion yesterday. Their friends and family converged on this wonderful venue from Surrey, Northamptonshire, London - and Zimbabwe - for James and Kirsten's big day.
We all had great fun filming a Marryoke "I'm a Believer" which will be available online soon.
And it was a great pleasure for to work with photographer Damian Bailey from Surrey for the first time. He even ended up helping us when we were filming the Marryoke !

Honeymoon Baby

Posted - 20 May 2010

Huge congratulations to Gareth and Emma on the birth of their son Osian, who came into the world in the early hours of Monday morning. He is absolutely gorgeous and all the family are doing well.

We filmed Gareth and Emma's wedding last August bank holiday, and it will be featured on Wedding TV on May 28th.

It's great to hear news from couples whose weddings we have filmed so please do get in touch and tell us yours !

"It's worth checking with them that their services will be in High Definition, for that truly sharp, colourful almost cinematic finish that will last a lifetime."

Portmeirion - Wedding TV

Posted - 21 April 2010

We've been asked by Wedding TV to take part in a feature about one of our favourite wedding venues, Portmeirion in north Wales.
The channel wants to talk to us about filming weddings at Portmeirion and will be showing clips from our videos in the feature.
We are going to Portmeirion for the interview tomorrow and needless to say we are delighted !
Keep an eye on our blog for the transmission date.

Brocket Hall and Auberge du Lac

Posted - 11 April 2010

Friday found us filming a Marryoke at a wonderful venue - Auberge du Lac in Hertfordshire which is part of the Brocket Hall estate. David and Jacqueline chose Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart) for their Marryoke and due to the enthusiasm of them and their guests it was filmed in record time !
We were delighted to introduce the Marryoke to the venue, who will now be recommending Orchid Films to their wedding clients.
This adds Brocket Hall and Auberge du Lac to Portmeirion in north Wales, the Marriott St Pierre at Chepstow and The Maze in York who also recommend us, along with South Wales photographers Siân Trenberth, Sacha Miller and Oliver Jones Photography.

Beautiful Easter Brides

Posted - 05 April 2010

The filming of two weddings over the Easter weekend went very well - in spite of heavy showers on Saturday which found us in Five Roads Chapel, Llanelli filming the wedding of Rhys and Llinos. All their guests packed into the tiny chapel for a Welsh language marriage ceremony before enjoying the rest of the day at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli. Llinos and her bridesmaids all looked stunning in beautiful gowns hand made by "Huw Fash" or Huw Rees of Llandeilo as his boutique is known outside Wales.
The sun came out on Sunday when Rob and Marged said their vows in the lovely Norman church of Merthyr Dyfan in Barry.
Marged looked radiant, and the couple and their guests really got into the spirit of a Marryoke to I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas, at the beautiful Fonmon Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Easter weddings

Posted - 31 March 2010

This is a really busy week preparing for two weddings over the Easter weekend. One will be all in Welsh, in a chapel near Llanelli and the other is in one of the oldest churches in Wales, in Barry.
We've already gone through all the final details with both couples, and have been to the chapel and church to work out where the best vantage point is to film from as both are very small !
We will be joined for the first time by Tony, who will be filming with us over the summer.
And there's also the edit of Geraint and Kelly's wedding to finish over the next couple of days. They look so happy and the pictures are beautiful.

Spring wedding

Posted - 22 March 2010

The weekend saw the start of a busy wedding season for us with the marraige of Geraint and Kelly at the church of St Peter, St Pierre, Chepstow with a reception at the Marriott St Pierre. The tiny church was full to capacity, and Kelly looked beautiful in a floor length lace dress with train and matching lace bolero. As both bride and groom are Welsh speakers, there were Welsh readings and hymns. In spite of the intermittent rain it was a fantastic day, complete with a surprise fireworks display in the evening.
On a technical note, we used a Glidecam for the first time and are delighted with the lovely cinematic shots.
Movie Trailer available soon !

No, this isn't about the bride and groom's children ! This week we are on a course learning about the latest High Definition cameras and production techniques. We already shoot in HD but are looking to get a new tapeless camera which will not only deliver beautiful artistic shots but will be perfect for using with our Steadicam to get lovely flowing pictures on the move. As an added bonus, not having tape will mean Same Day Screenings will be much quicker to produce so we can spend more time on the finishing touches to give your evening film an even more polished look.

Testimonial

Posted - 23 January 2010

It's always great to hear from couples whose weddings and civil ceremonies we've filmed, and the email we've just had from Kerry and Nigel is the kind of feedback which makes this job really worthwhile:
"We have just watched our Wedding video 3 times over and over again, it made me laugh and cry and we can honestly say it is so beautiful. Such a professional, well put together piece, and exactly what we wanted! Thank you so very much for being a part of our wedding and at such short notice too, we are so happy with the video and the marryoke is superb!
You were both so lovely on the day and we couldn't have picked a better team to leave us with a lasting memento of our wedding forever.
With many many thanks"

Jersey Weddings

Posted - 17 January 2010

We're very excited to have booked our flights for three weddings we've been commissioned to film in Jersey this summer.
All three couples have also asked us to film a Marryoke for them and we are really looking forward to going.
We are happy to film anywhere in the UK or abroad, and do not charge for time spent travelling.

Hollywood sparkle

Posted - 28 December 2009

Congratulations to Nigel and Kerry whose Hollywood-themed wedding we enjoyed filming yesterday at the Marriott St Pierre , Chepstow. Kerry was stunning in her forties style dress and all the men looked very smart in their dickie bows. The couple had chosen Islands in the Stream for a Marryoke, with all their guests having a good time and really entering into the spirit of it. We also enjoyed hearing the very talented harpist Bethan Myfanwy Hughes for the first time. At four days' notice this booking was a new record but thanks Nigel and Kerry - we really enjoyed it.

Happy Christmas

Posted - 24 December 2009

We would like to thank all the couples whose weddings we filmed in 2009 as well as everyone who has booked us for the future.
It's been a fantastic year which we've really enjoyed.
We've been privileged to be at so many weddings and every single couple have been really lovely - we have not come across one of those dreaded bridezillas !
The most memorable occasion has to be the June wedding in torrential rain - after a week of glorious sunshine - where the bride arrived at the church in green wellies.
We wish you a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Winter sunshine

Posted - 13 December 2009

Congratulations to Alyn and Helen whose south Wales wedding we filmed yesterday in beautiful winter sunshine. Their service was in the very pretty St David's Church, Miskin complete with male voice choir. For the reception the couple and their guests then moved on to the Coed-y-Mwstwr country house hotel, a Victorian mansion set in acres of woodland with beautiful views across the Vale of Glamorgan. Thanks to Alyn and Helen for asking us to record their special day - you all made us so welcome.

Beautiful Winter Wedding

Posted - 07 December 2009

We had a spectacular day at Emma and Carwyn's wedding on Saturday, Dec 5th. It was a proper Christmas Wedding full of festive fun. And following months of rain and floods the day was crisp and clear for the new Mr & Mrs Williams. Cardiff's City Hall was the perfect backdrop for the bride's outfit, Emma looked every inch the perfect winter princess. The couple were then whisked of to the stunning Vale Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in Hensol for their reception where all their friends and family were greeted with Mulled Wine and Mince Pies. The tables were named after the twelve days of Christmas and crackers were pulled before they all joined in singing Starship's 'Nothings Going To Stop Us Now' for the couple's Marryoke. Another first for Orchid Films, we love the fact that all our couples try different and original songs as it really makes their marryoke unique. Thank You both for making Orchid Films a part of your Special Day! It was also a pleasure working with Photographers Oliver & Ruth Jones and we hope to work with them a lot more in the future.

New Marryoke

Posted - 04 December 2009

You can now see Andrew and Darren's Marryoke to Save Your Love on our Video Gallery page.

Our First Civil Ceremony

Posted - 03 December 2009

Many congratulations to Andrew and Darren whose civil ceremony we filmed this week. It was a real pleasure to join them and their guests on such a special day. It was such an emotional, happy occasion which brought friends and family from Ireland, England and Jersey to the unique setting of Portmeirion in north Wales.
A smoke machine, confetti canyons and massive candelabras all added to the occasion, not forgetting the fun we had recording a Marryoke. Andrew and Darren chose the 1980s hit Save Your Love which went very well with the Italianate feel of Portmeirion.
Thanks Andy and Darren for asking us to record your day - it was a privilege.

The Small Print

Posted - 27 November 2009

It's that time of year when we have to pay our annual insurance premium. Yes rather boring news, but worth it to let you know that as a professional organisation we have insurance in place to cover Public Liability, Professional Indemnity and Employer Liability.

Separately we also have licenses to cover the music we record and use.

So when you wonder what goes into the cost of a Wedding Video - that's all included, as well as ongoing upgrades of our camera kit and editing equipment.

Floods in Cumbria

Posted - 25 November 2009

Our hearts go out to people affected by the floods, especially in Cockermouth and Workington. It's awful to see places you know so well devastated like that especially so close to Christmas :(

Up North

Posted - 17 November 2009

The weekend was spent in the north of England and we hope to be returning there for more weddings very soon.

Saturday found us at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire near Bradford filming a Marryoke to the song Islands in the Stream for Rick and Siån. They and their guests were really up for a laugh and we had a good time with them during the filming. The staff there also made us very welcome and you can see more of this wonderful venue at www.victoriahallsaltaire.co.uk.

The next day we were at the Rheged centre introducing the Marryoke to Cumbria ! We were delighted to be exhibiting at the Tantrums and Tiaras wedding fair where we met some lovely brides-to-be along with a fair few grooms-to-be as well. Rheged is another great venue where we have filmed this year www.rheged.com.

We already have quite a few bookings for next year so hope to hear from you very soon if your wedding is in 2010.

Wedding TV

Posted - 11 November 2009

Out of the blue this week we've had a call from Wedding TV asking about our Marryokes ! Very exciting. All thanks to Melissa, one of our brides who was so pleased with her Rockstar Marryoke she told them all about us. Wedding TV have asked for our Marryoke demo and they want to talk to some of the couples we've filmed. We'll keep you posted !

Come and meet us

Posted - 03 November 2009

If you live in the north of England do come and see us at the Tantrums and Tiaras wedding fair on November 15th at the Rheged Centre near Penrith in Cumbria.
We will be showing our new highlights film, and you can not only see our range of Marryokes but leave with a copy on your mobile phone.
It only takes a couple of minutes to transfer by bluetooth. Just ask our couples who've had a Same Day Screening - they and their guests have left the evening party with the day's highlights already on their phone !

New Marryoke

Posted - 30 October 2009

You can now see Owain and Nicki's Marryoke performed to The Darkness "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" on our Video Gallery page. It just shows what a variety of songs can be used for a Marryoke - it doesn't have to be Perfect Day !

Rocking out

Posted - 26 October 2009

This weekend saw a Marryoke with a difference. Owain and Nicki chose The Darkness song I Believe in a Thing Called Love, which was another first ! Everyone who took part (and those watching) had a real laugh, helped along by the wigs and blow up guitars.
The reception was at a lovely location in Northampton, the Hunsbury Hill Centre. It's a converted 18th century barn and buildings round a courtyard - perfect for a Marryoke because it offered us a good variety of shots.

Promotional Video

Posted - 20 October 2009

What a wonderful response to the promotional video we were commissioned to produce for one of our recommended partners Outdoor Fitness Ltd.
You can see the video at www.vimeo.com/7143628
It's already been described as awesome, fantastic and great in less than 24 hours so we're really pleased !
If you would like a video to promote your company or post on your website please do get in touch.

Out and About

Posted - 09 October 2009

We're really excited about a new venture this weekend. After seeing the promotional video we made for Ffos Las Racecourse, Outdoor Fitness have commissioned us to produce a film for their website www.outdoorfitnessltd.com. Outdoor Fitness are one of the companies we recommend and we're delighted to be working with them. You can see the Ffos Las video at http://www.vimeo.com/6245081.

Mark Jones & DJ Lottie

Posted - 07 October 2009

We were delighted to be asked to film the wedding of the queen of house music DJ Lottie and her record producer husband Mark Jones this summer. Now their friends have had a chance to see it, you can now view Mark and Charlotte's fantastic Marryoke on our Video Gallery page. They chose Phil Oakley's Together in Electric Dreams which works really well as a Marryoke song.

Recommendation

Posted - 27 September 2009

We are delighted to have had our documentary style endorsed by one of South Wales' leading wedding photographers, Sacha Miller.
Gareth and Emma chose him to take the pictures of their wedding and some of the beautiful shots he captured can be seen on his website www.sachamiller.co.uk
Sacha was a joy to work with and we look forward to filming alongside him again soon.

750 miles later

Posted - 07 September 2009

What an amazing weekend ! On Saturday we filmed Steve and Donna's wedding and Marryoke in beautiful Cumbria. They are a lovely couple and the ceremony was at Greystoke Castle which is stunning. The reception was at the Rheged Centre which is a lovely place for a wedding. With Emma still on honeymoon, we were lucky to find Jon Chappell to help with the filming. His day job is working for ITV in Manchester and Channel 5 and his footage of the wedding is brilliant.
Then on Sunday it was an early start to get to London to film a Marryoke for Joe and Melissa. And what a Marryoke it was - you can see it on the Video Gallery page on our website.
At Orchid Films we are happy to travel anywhere from our base in Cardiff to film your wedding, even if it's abroad.
We don't charge for our travelling time - only for the extra expenses.

Emma and Gareth's wedding

Posted - 29 August 2009

What a wonderful day for Orchid Films ! It was all because Emma couldn't find the kind of documentary style wedding video she wanted that Orchid Films was set up, so her wedding yesterday was a very special day for us. She looked stunning as she said "I do" to her lovely man Gareth at Canada Lodge near Cardiff. The guests at the evening party loved the Same Day Screening we showed - which you can see on our video page.

Music Makers

Posted - 16 August 2009

It was a first for Orchid Films yesterday, with the groom in a pink suit - and matching pink trilby. The bride looked amazing in a Jenny Packham dress. The occasion: the wedding of DJ Lottie aka Charlotte Horne and music producer Mark Jones, owner of the Wall of Sound label. And their Marryoke was something else. Watch this space !

A Day At The Races!

Posted - 03 August 2009

We had a brilliant day at Sarah and David's wedding on Saturday. Thankfully it changed from a very wet start to a lovely sunny day.
The new Mr & Mrs Jones were the first couple to have their wedding reception at the brand new Ffos Las Racecourse in South Wales and it was a great success.
Thank you to all the friends and family who joined in their unique Marryoke - the first we've ever done with blow up instruments!
View the Same Day Screening on our video page and watch this space for the Marryoke.
And finally a big thank you to Nia and the staff at Ffos Las who were brilliant - amazing service at a fantastic venue. Ffos Las gets the Orchid Films thumbs up!

Great feedback

Posted - 27 July 2009

Wow! We've just read a brilliant testimonial from Emma & Ian Isaac thanking us for their documentary wedding film created by Orchid Films.
http://www.freeindex.co.uk/profile(orchid-films)_156326.htm
It's having a reaction like this that makes all the hard work worthwhile :o)
Thanks guys, it was a great day and we had a fantastic time getting to know you (even if it was all in three days!)
And when you see their film you'll understand that bad weather really doesn't spoil a wedding as long as the couple are in love. On this occasion the rain, hail, thunder and lightning only served to make their day more unique and special as they smiled their way from start to finish.

Welcome to our new blog !
We were delighted to hear this week that Rachael and Paul whose wedding we filmed last year have just had a baby girl. Both mother and baby (and father !) are all doing well.
